The "historic" nature of astronomical research has become therefore more evident. In frame of a collaboration between Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (Armenia), University La Sapienza (Italy) and Cornell University (USA), the large collection of the First Byurakan Survey (FBS) spectral astronomical plates were digitized. FBS was carried out by B. E. Markarian et al. in 1965-1980 and covers a large part of the sky. The results are freely accessible through a dedicated web interface. This book describes the history of the FBS, most important results obtained with it, and presents the electronic version (Digitized First Byurakan Survey, DFBS). It describes also in detail the procedures for its scientific use and some examples of research with the DFBS. |
