DFBS AVAILABLE ONLINE
We would like to
inform you that DFBS (Digitized First Byurakan Survey) is available online. It
is available at http://byurakan.phys.uniroma1.it/ web site. Beside the complete
info about the DFBS there are, three main options for the users for interactive
work with the database:
·
Explore: allows investigation of
DFBS fields by given coordinates. All spectra in the field are interactive (clickable)
and one can pick up 1D extracted spectrum itself and data of the objects.
·
Get Image: allows retrieving portions
of the DFBS by given position and field size collect needed images and then
download them.
·
Get Spectra: allows retrieving
spectra of necessary objects, by given coordinates, or uploading a list of coordinates.
One may collect spectra and then download to his/her own computer.
There is also a bSpec program, which allows extraction of
all spectra from any DFBS plate and measures positions, lengths, B and R
magnitudes, and preliminarily classifications. The DFBS catalog is being
created and will be available soon.

CONGRATULATIONS
Prof. Kazarian, Misha A.
recently celebrated his 75th anniversary. Prof. Kazarian was born
5.03.1932 in Maralik, Armenia. He worked at the Byurakan Observatory from
1958-1980. Since 1968, Kazarian works at the Yerevan State University,
Department of Astrophysics, at the beginning as a lecturer and after as a
Professor (1990) and Head of the Department of Astrophysics (in 1994). From
1980 to 1990 he was the head of the observational station of artificial satellites
of the Yerevan State University. His research is devoted to various studies of
H-alpha stars, cometary nebulas, galaxies with UV excess. He has published more
than 100 papers in Astrophysics, Commun. of BAO and Astrophys. J, presented a
number of talks at different international scientific meetings. Some 600 UVX
galaxies have been catalogued, known as Kazarian galaxies. 120 of these objects
have been studied photometrically and spectroscopically by Kazarian at the
Byurakan 2.6m and Special Astrophysical Observatory (Russia) 6m telescopes.
More than 40
years Kazarian works at the University, has lectured a number of courses and
has contributed significantly in preparation of Armenian astronomers. He has
been scientific supervisor for a number of Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors theses.
Prof. Kazarian is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU),
European Astronomical Society (EAS) and Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS)
(2001).
Prof. Malumian, Vigen H.
recently celebrated his 75th anniversary. Prof. Malumian was born on
March 11, 1932 in Yerevan, Armenia. Prof. Malumian's main research interests
include investigations of isolated and double galaxies, groups of galaxies,
radio galaxies, quasars and other radio sources in both radio and other wavelengths
ranges. On these and some other scientific topics he has published more than 80
papers, presented a number of talks at different international scientific
meetings. More than half a century Prof. Malumian works at the Byurakan
Observatory. Currently he is a leading scientific researcher (since 1995),
member of the Scientific Council and Council for Scientific Degrees of the
Byurakan Observatory. For long years Malumian lectures at the Yerevan State
University, since 1995 he is a Professor and has contributed significantly in preparation
of Armenian astronomers as well.
Prof. Malumian
is member of IAU (since 1997), EAS, one of the founding members of ArAS.
We congratulate
